Stretching 137 miles long west of the Mississippi River, the Atchafalaya River is the nation’s largest river swamp, containing almost one million acres of the most significant wetlands. This iconic river is home to more than 300 species of wildlife, making it one of Louisiana’s most important natural habitats.
